Who knew my cat was an art snob???
I have been watching lots of old films recently, for example: “Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One”, “Crossing The Bridge”, “The Conformist”, “Diary Of A Country Priest”, “Clean Shaven”, “Le Guerre Est Finie”, “Erotikon”,”Germany Year Zero” & “1900″ to name a few…

but all of these bored my cat to tears until…her eyes fell upon the Canadian animator Norman McLaren, and the film “Boogie Doodle” (see frame grab). Instantly her eyes became glued. She ran up to the screen and attentively watched every frame, and that wasn’t all! She was a fan, no matter what I put on “Le Merle“, “Begone Dull Care“, she was totally digging it.

Feline concerns aside, recently I was reminded of Nick Blinko‘s artwork (through listening to Rudimentary Peni again).
**They being, probably the most musically interesting of England’s anarcho-punk bands from the early 80′s. Or perhaps the only one (outside of Discharge) that I still listen to regularly. See their rather sparse Wiki entry here .
The singer was basically insane but yet couldn’t create his macabre art while on medication. So he’d be “unstable” making his drawings. I’ve seen some of his stuff floating around for as little as $300 dollars, but most of it is all about countless faces.

So this dark artwork started to remind me of another artist by the name of Hans Bellmer, whose work I have loved for awhile. His is all about “the female body” (an obsession of many artists). I have long been a fan of his (albeit) twisted art, drawings and photography…his Wiki is here.

and speaking of weird…WMFU has a posting on Marie Osmond performing Hugo Ball‘s Dadaist sound poem “Karawane” which, given who SHE is, could be the weirdest thing I have ever heard-listen to it here.
What else…musically I’ve been listening to the new Deerhoof a lot

as well as continuing to listen to Be Your Own PET

and also Nick Cave‘s new band “Grinderman” (actually, just the Bad Seeds “rockin’ out for a change)

Oh, and lastly one book I am eager to read is the Mark E. Smith autobiography “Renegade: The Gospel According To Mark E. Smith”. How’s that for worthless trivia?
Oh well, on to more important things.
