“Goodbye from the world’s biggest polluter”
George W. Bush [in parting words to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy at his final G-8 Summit, punching the air and grinning widely as the two leaders looked on in shock, Rusutsu, Japan, July 10, 2008]

We spent Sunday morning watching the early 50′s Italian films “The Little World Of Don Camillo” and “The Return Of Don Camillo“. The films obviously both adapted from the Don Camillo series of books featured fine comic acting and really got the “tone” right too. No surprise as the author [Giovanni Guareschi] was deeply involved. The (once-popular) books are all out of print but Mandy gave me a copy of the first one last year.

Guareschi is not Calvino or anything, more like James Thurber.
Lightly humorous, making you smile.
I mean…I can’t live on a diet solely of art films or else I’ll be like that guy in Cinemania!
(Which I just watched on Friday and loved).

An interesting article in Salon. Though I remain skeptical that the most craven Congress in the last 100 years will do anything substantial to bring accountability to these outgoing crooks. Nope, I’m sure the members of Bushco will continue to live long and cushy lives long after this disastrous regime has come to an end.
