John Bolton, the latest crypto-fascist to be appointed Ambassador to the UN. He’s to the right (and to the right) of the liar in the red power dress.
I read today that belatedly… some Connecticut voters are finally realizing that their man Joe Lieberman is a right-wing republican. And thus the “Dump Joe” campaign in their state was born.
Perhaps it was the kiss from the prez at the last State of the Union address that woke ‘em up.
For those at home keeping score, we are at 1500 US soldiers dead now. And 1400 of those were killed AFTER the resident said that combat operations were over. Alot he knows.
But, hey he’s spreading democracy like some Wilsonian cokehead, right???A few facts:Lebanon-has held elections since 1927 (but stopped during the civil war in 1975). Bush keeps claiming credit for their street demonstrations , but the Lebanese are inspired by what just happened in the Ukraine, not the disaster in Iraq. Besides they know that the French gave them democracy….not Bush. Bush also acts as if we had something to do about the recent Ukrainian victory. When of course, we had nothing to do with it at all. Just ask a Ukranian. Syria was a democracy in 1947…until we started supporting dictatorships there.
Iran has held around 20 elections in the last 24 years, but I dont hear Bush speak about those.
Instead, it’s all about nuclear threat. When the Shah was ruling Iran with an iron fist…we were actively helping him create nuclear power plants. But ever since 1953 in that country we werent much on “recognizing” democracy there (when the democratically-elected Mossadegh tried to nationalize the oil industry, something passed unanimously by their parliament). A CIA-sponsored coup overthrew him, installing a sadistic monster. (No, not Saddam Hussain,
although we supported him too).
Saudi Arabia promised to hold elections ever since 1962. Good to see them doing it…but it was a farce. The people know that too. What else could explain only 25% of the potential voters registering and of them only 2/3 rd’s of those actually voting and only for local positions, and of course, all the serious candidates had to be approved by the House of Saud. Oh, did I say that
women were not ALLOWED to vote. Yeah, our close allies. Similar situation to be found in Egypt with US ally Mubarek calling the shots on how this election will be done. Egypt is the 2nd largest recipient of of US foreign aid after Israel…go figure. Iraqis wouldnt have voted (the Sunnis didnt), if Sistani had told them it was their religious duty. He, the most popular man in Iraq, had alot more to do with that elections turnout than George Bush did. The Palestinians had an election recently it had a 65% turnout…better that the US elections. The thing is that in 1996 they had a national election and had an 88% turnout. So actually, democracy far from being “on the march” is actually on the decline there. Bush is taking credit for things that have nothing to do with him and NOT taking responsibility for all that rests solely on his shoulders.
