At the end of 2009, I was going through a book of postcards postmarked approximately between 1910 and 1912. Most of them were to/from country bumpkins, (well…maybe not that so much but…a good many of them have RFD addresses* [Rural Free Delivery, established in 1891 so people in the sticks didn't have to go to the post office all the time to pick up their mail].
On one hand, these, at times seem like they are from a much earlier age, yet on the other some of the topics appear so modern in sentiment (full of guilt, insecurity and misunderstanding) that they could have been written yesterday. Some are just funny too. I wish I had had more time to photograph more. I’ve translated them (as best I could) into readable English.
